Synopsis

This 1993 mini-series was an ambitious set of stories about life on the mean streets of San Francisco. Each of the three books concentrated on a different section of the city, beginning with the jailbait hookers walking the Tenderloin. There, two teenage hookers had recently been found, sliced into pieces. Detective Nick Darrow is put on the case, but everywhere he looks, he comes up short. Worst of all, his own department couldn’t seem to care less. Then good fortune strikes Darrow in the form of a parking ticket, placed on the cop’s windshield by a young rookie named Lisa Parks. Darrow sees his opening and offers Lisa a chance to fill in as his partner. She then plays the part of a homeless girl while he investigates through more conventional means. Together they crack the case—and discover that the streets of San Francisco are far meaner than they ever dreamed.
