A group of army personnel are transporting several canisters of toxic waste from Chicago en route to Tulsa, Oklahoma. The truck runs afoul of the Hulk and the canisters open, inundating the Hulk in radioactive chemicals. These chemicals alter the Hulk's gamma-warped aura. This alteration is noticed by a two-dimensional alien warlord known as Kaa, the Living Shadow. Taking control of the Hulk's shadow, Kaa assumes all of the brute’s strength and savagery. They battle one another throughout the course of the day, but as night time approaches, flood lights from a nearby oil field are turned on, and Kaa is bathed in intense light. The light dispels Kaa's form and he disappears, seemingly destroyed.
