Chasing after some crooks to their hide-out, Hawkman and Hawkgirl are about to bust them when they suddenly de-evolve into ape-people and begin fighting, however they quickly change back to normal and arrest the crooks. Finding the whole experience strange, they build portable Absorbiscons and decide to investigate the hide out. There they find a portal to the dimension of Illoral, where a strange de-evolving energy came through the portal. It effected Hawkman and Hawkgirl briefly, because they quickly developed an immunity to it. Traveling to this realm, they are first attacked by tiger-people, after a brief battle they make their escape to there air. There they are attacked by an army of winged apes. They manage to fight them off and find a winged woman who ushers them into a secret mountain-side laboratory. The girl introduces herself as Dwyanna Ral, and that her husband was a scientist named Ambarr. Ambarr was apparently was trying to solve the fact that the regular evolutionary process on Illoral had been restrained and was trying to find a way to kick start it once more. However, before the process could be complete Dwyanna accidentally activated the device causing it to de-evolve the entire population of the planet except for her. Learning that one crucial device that can reverse everything is in a very volatile region of the planet, Hawkman and Hawkgirl agree to go out and retrieve it. After battling a series of flying apes and rat-men, they manage to locate the device and activate it. Suddenly the devolution process on the planet is reversed and everyone in Illoral are restored back to normal. In thanks for their aid, Ambarr helps Hawkman and Hawkgirl return back to the Earth dimension.
