Strongbow's wolf faces a dog-pet who has become feral after contracting rabies. The wolf wins the fight but is infected with the disease. The story is a bizarre tale and the elves struggle to attempt to understand the psychology of a sick animal suffering from an unknown disease, that rather than weakening its host, simply makes it more ferocious.During the take, Strongbow must briefly separate himself from his clan, which he also chose to do in ElfQuest #12. Strongbow himself contracts rabies "the howling disease", and the WolfRiders seek out a cure for both he and the wolf from Old Maggoty, a troll-witchdoctor.
