Synopsis

After the explosion of last issue, Black Condor is rushed to the hospital. Ned Smith and Bonnie Robinson arrive and recap for the police the events leading to the explosion. However, the explanation is cut short when the Black Condor is transformed into this mute, rocky, gargoyle-like creature. The gargoyle-Condor flees the hospital.  Meanwhile, the lava creature from Black Condor #7 slips into Philadelphia, intent to attack the Solarchem headquarters. The lava creature attacks, which draws the attention of Happy Terrill. Happy and his son Ray Terrill, the first and second Ray, head out to stop the creature, but the gargoyle-Condor arrives first. The gargoyle-Condor, with only animal-like intelligence, attacks the lava creature.  The gargoyle-Condor and the lava creature are soon both attacked by the two Rays. When gargoyle-Condor tries to save Ned Smith, Ray Terrill mistakenly thinks it is an attack, and fries gargoyle-Condor. When the smoke clears, everyone thinks that gargoyle-Condor is destroyed… until the gargoyle-Condor rises from the crater double in size.
