Static was created by Dwayne McDuffie, Michael Davis, Derek Dingle, and Jim Bernard as part of the Milestone Media initiative to create diverse characters in the comic book industry.

Early Years

Virgil Hawkins was a teenager living in Dakota City who gained electromagnetic powers after being exposed to a mutagenic gas during a gang fight. He adopted the superhero identity of Static to fight crime and protect his community.

Character Development

Over the years, Static has evolved from a teenage hero dealing with typical adolescent issues to a mature superhero who understands the complexities of heroism, community, and identity.

Cultural Reception

Static has been well-received for his relatable character and the way he addresses social issues, particularly those affecting African American communities.
