Static

Creation & Design

Static was created by Dwayne McDuffie, Denys Cowan, Michael Davis, and Derek Dingle as part of the Milestone Media line, aimed at providing diverse characters in comic books.

Early Years

Virgil Hawkins was a teenager living in Dakota City who gained electromagnetic powers after being exposed to a mutagenic gas during a gang fight. He became Static, a superhero who fought crime and dealt with personal issues.

Character Development

Over the years, Static has evolved from a teenage superhero dealing with typical adolescent issues to a more mature character who grapples with complex social issues, identity, and responsibility.

Static has been well-received for his relatable character and the representation of African American culture in comics.
