The Runaways were created by writer Brian K. Vaughan and artist Adrian Alphona, debuting in 2003. The concept revolves around a group of teenagers who discover their parents are supervillains and decide to run away and fight against their legacy.

The initial series focused on the characters' struggles with their powers, their relationships, and their fight against their parents' evil organization, The Pride.
