Night Thrasher was created by writer Fabian Nicieza and artist Mark Bagley, debuting in the late 1980s as a part of the New Warriors team, designed to represent a darker, more serious hero.

Dwayne Taylor was raised in a wealthy family but faced tragedy when his parents were killed. This motivated him to become a vigilante and fight crime, leading to the formation of the New Warriors.
