Iron Lad was created by writer Allan Heinberg and artist Jim Cheung, first appearing in 2005 as a young version of Kang the Conqueror, who travels back in time to prevent his future self from becoming a tyrant.

Early Years

Nathaniel Richards, a descendant of Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic), discovers his future as Kang and decides to change his fate by assembling a team of young heroes, the Young Avengers.

Character Development

Over time, Iron Lad evolves from a young hero trying to escape his destiny to a more complex character who understands the weight of his lineage and the implications of time travel.
